Did you know that your ears get tired, especially if you have been working with wide bandwith synth sounds for hours or mixing at high volume levels. What usually happens is that your ears will get tired to the "highs" (high frequency components of your mix) and the "lows" (low frequency components of your mix). So what happens then? Then you turn up the highs and lows TOO MUCH. So what is the advice here?
1) Work with more moderate volume levels.
2) Don't commit to a final mix until THE NEXT DAY. Leave all of your sliders and pan controls in the same position and listen to the mix the next day with a fresh pair of ears! You may be surprised what you hear!
3) Have a good friend with a pair of critical ears listen (good idea if you have some permanent hearing loss)
